Nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, First Baptist Church of Johnstownhas been a pillar of faith and community since 1795. As an independent Baptist congregation, we are deeply committed to the preaching and teaching of God’s inerrant Word—with a passion for evangelism, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
We are a warm, welcoming body of believers who love God, love others, and serve the world. Our mission is simple yet powerful:
Our church family values expository preaching, biblical truth, and a heart for missions. We are united by a shared desire to make disciples who live out their faith in everyday life.
From our vibrant Children’s Church ministry to opportunities for service and outreach, there’s a strong sense of family and purpose here. We describe ourselves as “a caring church for a caring Lord”—and we mean it.
We believe God’s next shepherd for First Baptist will share our passion for the gospel, a love for people, and a vision to see lives transformed by the power of God’s Word.
We believe God’s Word is inerrant, trustworthy, and sufficient for all of life. Scripture guides our preaching, teaching, and every ministry decision with clarity and conviction.
Our worship focuses on loving God and deepening affection for His Son. Through song, prayer, and preaching, we seek to glorify Christ and grow in faith.
We equip believers to live out their faith through study, fellowship, and service. God’s truth transforms hearts, shapes minds, and strengthens daily obedience to Him.
We are a caring, multigenerational family united by faith and friendship. Together we offer encouragement, accountability, and compassion as we follow Christ and serve one another.
We exist to share Christ’s love with our neighbors and the nations. Evangelism, outreach, and service flow from hearts transformed by God’s grace and truth.
Founded in 1795, First Baptist Church of Johnstown has been a vibrant witness for Christ in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains for over two centuries. As an independent Baptist church, we are joyfully committed to the authority of Scripture, the expository preaching of God’s Word, and the Gospel mission of making disciples both locally and globally.
Our historic church campus blends tradition and functionality, featuring a welcoming sanctuary and well-maintained facilities that serve as the heart of our worship and community life. Here, God’s people gather each week for heartfelt worship, biblical teaching, and meaningful fellowship.
Throughout our long history, First Baptist has enjoyed a legacy of faithful pastoral leadership and steady congregational unity. Generations of believers have grown, served, and worshiped here—rooted in God’s truth and motivated by His love.
Today, approximately 90–100 believers gather each Sunday to study God’s Word, worship together, and encourage one another to live out the Gospel in everyday life. We are a warm, multigenerational church family—devoted to loving God, loving others, and serving the world.
Our prayer is that God will bring a shepherd who shares our passion for His Word, our heart for people, and our desire to see lives transformed through the power of Jesus Christ.
The senior pastor faithfully delivers sermons and Bible teachings rooted in Scripture, helping the congregation understand, apply, and live out God's truth.
He provides spiritual guidance, counseling, prayer, and personal support, nurturing believers through life's challenges and encouraging their growth in Christ.
He identifies, mentors, and empowers leaders within the church, ensuring that ministry teams are biblically trained and equipped for service.
The senior pastor prayerfully casts vision, defines mission priorities, and steers the church toward fulfilling its biblical calling to make disciples.
The pastor oversees organizational operations — from finances to staffing — ensuring the church functions with integrity, efficiency, and faithfulness to its mission.
He leads the church in outreach efforts, modeling evangelism and building bridges to the surrounding community to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The senior pastor protects the church from false teaching, upholds sound doctrine, and fosters unity among believers under the authority of God’s Word.
The successful candidate will be a man who loves Jesus Christ wholeheartedly, shepherds his family faithfully, and models a life of personal holiness and integrity. He will exhibit spiritual maturity through consistent devotion to prayer, Scripture, and servant leadership. As the primary leader, he will lead the church with humility and collaboration, respecting the authority structures established by the elder board or church leadership. He will possess a passionate vision to see the church grow spiritually and numerically, actively engaging the local community with the life-transforming message of the Gospel.
